Vegan Asia Conference
Vegan Asia Conference 2010 – call for papers

The ‘First Vegan Asia Conference – Ahimsa in the 21st Century’ is being proposed for Autumn 2011 in the Kansai area of Japan to coincide with the independently organized annual Vegetarian Festival, Kyoto in October.
The intention is to establish good working relationships amongst vegans in Asia and help enable a better flow of information between different nations and communities.
- Individuals are being requested to propose papers on topics relating to:
• History of local vegan or vegetarian movements
• Vegan or vegetarian diet
• Animal rights, welfare and abolitionism
• Legal and campaigning strategies
• Science and the environment
• Other food related issues
Participation is not limited to those with an academic or professional background. Personal and grassroot experiences are very welcome, as are artistic and multi-media presentations.
At present, the conference details are intentionally loose and will be guided by the response we receive from the international community.
The conference is being organized by international activists currently living in Asia on a not-for-profit basis.
The proposed conference logo above is for illustration purposes only. It is expected that most attendees will being coming from neighboring China, Korea, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan which is reflected in the publicity design. Final details to be confirmed.
Citizens of all nations are welcome.
- Vegan Lotus Logo

The ‘Vegan Lotus’ logo is a proposal for a new vegan logo with references to both the original sunflower logo and Asian culture. It is neither the property of, nor does it reflect upon, any national interest.
Our intention is to establish a sign that can become internationally recognized, and freely used, trade and service mark for vegan food labeling and so on. It is an international vegan mark.
- Costs, finances, sponsorship and volunteers
Currently, it is not expected that any grants will be available for speakers but this may change.
What we can offer are stunning surroundings at a world heritage site, and a fascinating cultural and dietary experience, all at best value to participants.
